Telangana Doctors Association urges Govt to Lift Transfer Ban, Fill Faculty posts

In a meeting held on Wednesday, TGDA representatives met with State Health Minister Damodar Raja Narasimha and submitted a formal memorandum outlining their concerns. They emphasized that prominent government-run institutions like Osmania Medical College, Gandhi Medical College, Kakatiya Medical College in Warangal, and the Government Medical College in Nizamabad are grappling with a serious lack of senior faculty members.

In a letter to the Health Minister, the association pointed out, “These premier institutes are currently facing a significant shortage of senior faculty, which is adversely impacting both medical education (PG teaching) and patient care. Several sanctioned posts remain unfilled while there are eligible and willing faculty members awaiting transfer in the periphery.” The association stated that permitting transfers into existing vacancies would improve staffing without imposing any additional financial burden on the government.

Talking to Medical Dialogues, Dr B Narhari, state president of Telangana Government Doctors Association, stated, “Even if the ban on transfers cannot be lifted right now, essential transfer of professors to the major institutes is crucial. We have requested the authorities to relax the current ban on transfers for posts of professors in various departments. We have also requested to permit the filling of existing professor vacancies at OMC, GMC, KMC, and GMC Nizamabad through the transfers of eligible faculty. This measure not only strengthens the academic framework of these institutions, but also significantly enhances healthcare services to the public.”

A few months ago, the members of the TGDA recently had a meeting with Health Minister Damodar Raja Narasimha to discuss ways of strengthening the medical services provided in government hospitals. The association has demanded that 66 civil surgeon posts be granted for the 33 districts in the state.
