AP: Mother and Child Care unit at Government General Hospital soon
GUNTUR: A new unit of mother and child healthcare is soon going to be added at the Andhra Pradesh Government General Hospital (GGH). It is reported the Andhra Pradesh Medical Services and Infrastructure Development Corporation (APMSIDC) will construct this new unit.
The total budget of Rs 20 crore was sanctioned for the said unit in 2014 by the central government out of which a sum of Rs 15 crore was released by the State government for it. The Guntur Medical College Alumni of North America (GMCANA) has come forward to donate Rs 30 crore for the mother and child hospital if the project was taken up.
Government Hospital GGH Superintendent DS Raju Naidu said: “GMCANA members who met Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu during his recent visit to Amercia, promised to donate Rs 30 crore for the construction of the mother and child hospital. The works of the super speciality hospital are likely to be taken up soon.”
In a view to handle increasing number of maternity cases at GGH as at present the hospital has only 150 beds dedicated to maternal cases. It is reported that the new mother and child healthcare unit will be equipped with 200 beds strength, a proposal in this regard has already been submitted to the government.
Speaking about the new unit Andhra Pradesh Medical Services and Infrastructure Development Corporation's (APMSIDC) Executive Engineer Y Ashok Kumar told Express,“Further talks with GMCANA will be held on quantum of donation after grounding the mother and child super speciality hospital project.”
